The Gulf of Papagayo is home to big and abundant sailfish, striped and blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, amberjack, and dorado. For the same reason is world famous for enormous roosterfish, which join snapper and jackfish to make up excellent inshore fishing.
Most of the pelagics can be found year-round, with marlin peaking from November – March and sailfish from May–August. Tuna are caught throughout the year, and fishermen can almost always find schools of “football” sized tuna that make great table fare as well as marlin bait.
