Tourism is chiefly how Playas del Coco survives these days and to that end, it, unlike the others beach communities in the area, is truly a full-service town. There are numerous low and moderately-priced hotels that rent rooms to visitors as well as bars and restaurants on and off the beach offering international and local cuisine.

Many dive shops in town take out divers daily as well as private Papagayo fishing charters that take out customers in search of yellowfin tuna, sailfish, marlin, roosterfish, wahoo or Mahi-mahi.

Playas del coco itself is sunbathing, swimming, people watching, and a little exploring: at low tide, you can walk over the rocks at the left end of the beach to reach the secluded, white sand beach of Playa Blanca.

This beach town is also the services center of this area. The port captain and immigration have their offices in Playas del Coco. Playas del Coco Fishing Inshore

Inshore fishing is the most popular kind of fishing in Playas del Coco because you don’t need to boat out too far and it’s affordable. Just boat out of Coco for about 20 minutes and you’re in the Gulf of Papagayo where you can catch roosterfish, snapper, jacks, amberjack, mackerel, and fish like those.

We usually go inshore fishing around the bay and we always catch something. It’s a lot of fun!
